Glasgow, Edinburgh and Orkney have been named in Time Out’s 15 must places to visit in the UK in 2023. This list was selected by Time Out’s journalists and looks to those cities with thriving food, drink and art scenes, and those with specific events happening.
Coming in at number 6 was Glasgow, while Edinburgh took 9th spot followed by Orkney at number 12.
Glasgow was featured because of its vibrant vegan food scene and its famous music scene. The reopening of a refurbished Burrell Collection is definitely worth a visit while it’s also the place to be this coming March when Glasgow opens its doors for the annual film festival.
Edinburgh was chosen for its beauty, quirky independent shops and amazing new hotel openings including luxury Georgian chic Gleneagles Townhouse. It also hosts the iconic annual Fringe Festival every August.
Orkney was picked as starting from April 2023, Loganair will be running twice daily flights from London to Kirkwall. With 70 islands to discover, the short hop from London will be a welcome journey, on what used to be a mammoth trip. It will also be just in time for the opening of a 5000-year-old Neolithic site, the Ness of Brodgar, between July 5th and August 17th 2023.
With our guests starting to think about their travel to their cruises, we would definitely recommend a stopover in one of our two largest cities here in Scotland! With regular trains and buses from Edinburgh and Glasgow to our destinations of Oban and Holy Loch, why not visit Time Out’s places to visit on your travels. Even better, book one of our Orkney cruises, our newest cruising destination, and experience one of Time Out’s 15 places that everyone will be talking about in 2023!
