As we come into Autumn we embark on Aurora season! The Northern Lights or Aurora Borealis are a natural occurrence caused by an interaction between the solar wind escaping the sun and the earth’s magnetic field. When the charged particles collide they create a dancing, pulsing wave of purple and green glow filling the dark skies.
Over the past couple of nights, the people of Scotland have been witness to the awe-inspiring Aurora and most of the guests on our small ships were lucky enough to see them too. With clear, calm evenings on the West Coast, our guests ventured out on deck to witness this incredible phenomenon.
Here are just a few of these images captured by Skipper Neil White from Glen Shiel in Loch Sunart and guest Chris Cogan onboard Glen Etive in Loch na Droma Buidhe.
