The Outer Hebrides - The Islands on the Edge of Europe - Glen Shiel
Charles and Ann Jakeman
Genuine Scottish hospitality at its best sums up our experience on this beautiful cruise. We were delighted to discover on boarding that the weather gods were with us so we would have an unexpected bonus of a trip to St Kilda. Neil as skipper made excellent route and landing decisions throughout the cruise, he clearly is an expert in this area but is also someone who has the comfort and enjoyment of all his guests in the front of his mind all the time - and he was also spotted showing expertise in the dishwashing department such is the team effort onboard. The food onboard was excellent, well balanced, you did not go hungry but also you were not overfed. Molly is a wizard in the kitchen (how does she do it in that small space) and we have some new recipes to try and recreate back home. Alan and Kerrie added to the experience with all their hard work especially the tender duties. To anyone concerned about the tender - don't be, everyone is so helpful getting you on and off the tender, it was easier than on a cruise ship and the tender rides were fun. We visited 11 islands and enjoyed landings beside the stones at Callanish, a deserted beach on Taransay and the beauty of Barra amongst other spots. If you stop in Barra, the harbour master does excellent all island tours in his taxi. The islands may have been on the edge of Europe but the Glen Shiel hospitality was right at the top - thank you everyone
